The Men: “Open Your Heart”

[MUST-HAVE]

Last year, The Men, an art rock/noise rock collective from Brooklyn, released a tremendous LP in Leave Home. Featuring tracks like “If You Leave” and “Shittin’ With The Shah”, Leave Home excelled in reviving an appreciation of punk-driven melodies. The Men are back at it again with their forthcoming album, Open Your Heart. The title track was released today, and it’s a stunning, bellowing piece of art rock that’s lined with aggression and catharsis. Thumping, crawling basslines and thundering riffs clamor together in an all-out release of approachability; it exhibits The Men’s typically-hammering sound, but it is noticeably more pop-sensible than previous efforts—something newcomers will find most delectable. Though not as heavy as many of the tracks on Leave Home, “Open Your Heart” will undoubtedly find its way worming through your ears with its solid production and classically-influenced expressions.
